As far as my understanding goes, in first grade, the basic focus remains on math, reading and there is little start for creative writing. I am just giving an overview not the details of the curriculum. Again, these are the topics I helped my son to understand better and made worksheets of. Not all the topics from the subject are being covered by me.
In Math students are expected;
1. Forward and backward counting from 1 to 120.
2. Addition and subtraction from 1 to 50.
3. Skip counting, 2s, 5s, and 10s.
4. Word problems.
5. Basic knowledge of graphs.
6. Measuring objects with nontraditional methods.
7. Balancing of equations.
8. Time Telling.
9. Number Facts.
10. Geometry basics: Shapes, 2D and 3D, partitioning shapes, composing shapes.
In Reading, he struggled in the beginning but now is doing very well. He was expected to do the followings:
1. Start writing capital letter while beginning the sentence.
2. complete sentences with subject-verb agreement.
3. past and present verb tense.
4. singular, plural, common, and proper nouns.
5. punctuation marks at the end of declarative, exclamatory, and interrogative sentences.
6. demonstrate knowledge of distinguishing characteristics of well-known children’s literatures such as folktales, fables, fairy tales, and nursery rhymes.
7. Should be able to retell the story and should be able to imagine what will happen next in the story.
8. Some sight words were given those are common and frequent. He was expected the write and read them correctly.
I am sure there are other things which are included in curriculum but I worked hard along with my son on the topics I mentioned above. I am stating this again and again because it is very likely that not all the worksheets and mentioning of all the lessons are included here on the blog.
